Program Introduction
Every program offered at Bear Mountain School of Massage was designed and created by the founder and owner, Sheryl Daniel. Sheryl has immense experience with many different healing modalities that is evident in her classes and programs. As an instructor herself for over 20 years, she understands the importance of well rounded, meticulously designed courses to bring out the infinite possibilities in every student. Personal and professional connections in the healing and education community also provided the invaluable expertise and input that created the exciting education programs taught at Bear Mountain School of Massage. Many thanks to my supportive and fabulous colleagues and especially Paul Witt, one of our fabulous instructors.
Bear Mountain School of Massage does not mix the professional business of a salon or clinic to distract us from our commitment to giving our students the best learning experience possible and our complete, undivided attention. All clinic and spas have their own way of doing things and if you learn only one way, their way, you will be at a disadvantage in your employment search and private practice building after graduation.
Faculty
Bear Mountain School of Massage’s outstanding instructors include professionals from the many different areas of instruction including: massage therapists, movement therapists, chiropractors, personal trainers, reflexologists, aromatherapists, yoga instructors, and a host of other holistic health disciplines. The faculty are required to have, or have had, their own private practices or have worked in their field of specialty for at least 5 years, many have been practicing for over 14 years and some over 25 years. Training in instruction, teaching and learning methods, and standards of curriculum fosters cohesion between individual instructors and subsequently each program. This cohesion creates a learning community of talented, passionate instructors who desire to grow in their own knowledge and to continually improve their teaching abilities.
Paul Witt was actually Sheryl’s instructor, oh so many winters ago. Paul’s passion about therapeutic massage, bodywork, movement, Sustainability, and the human form makes him an invaluable addition to the faculty. His contribution to the massage profession by training aware massage therapists excited about how they can assist their clients, in only the way he can, makes him an exceptional instructor in every possible way.
Partial Independent Learning Program
Bear Mountain School of Massage has a partial independent learning and partial residence program. Many classes have theoretical components that are “independent learning” or “self-study”. The independent modules are intended to let students get first exposure to foundational information and test memorization skills of that information to maximize time in class with instructors.

Reflexology Programs
Reflexology is an alternative treatment in which pressure is applied to parts of the feet, hands and ears in order to promote relaxation and healing elsewhere in the body through reflex points. A new parent inspects the hands and feet of his or her newborn, counting the fingers and toes, holding the feet while experiencing the joyful feeling of the newborns grasp. Throughout the history of humankind, the ability of our feet and hands has allowed us to move as well as to hold. Reflexology is an art and a science. A reflexologist works reflex points on the feet, hands, and ears that represent the body in miniature. The nerve pathways in each foot create an electrochemical flow that communicates with the entire nervous system. Each reflex point connects with a specific organ, gland, or body part. Through the application of pressure using specific thumb and finger techniques, reflexology connects with the peripheral nervous system and encourages the body to relax. Reflexology is not a foot massage and is not regulated as massage; reflexology is the stimulation of nerve and energy pathways. The techniques and the specific procedures of reflexology are as complex and wonderful as massage, yet they are entirely different. Reflexology has its roots in every ancient culture, demonstrating a link from early civilizations that continues even today. The traditions drawn from ancient cultures give richness to the discovery, allowing present-day practitioner to benefit from this wisdom while developing new traditions. Students will learn to locate the reflexes in the feet, hands and ears in relation to organs, glands, systems and areas of the body, ID different zones, learn safe and proper modern applications of techniques as well as historical uses. A foundation in the sciences involved that include anatomy, physiology and pathology is also established. Two levels are offered that include comprehensive study for the novice enthusiast and a professional practitioner certification.
